The Sentient Bean has become the community meeting place envisioned by Kelly Pearson and Kristin Russell as they made their "coffee tour" of Central America several years ago. Kelly and Kristin met in college in Minneapolis ( we think) and brewed the idea up in their dorm room. The Bean produces a newsletter and keeps an Events Board of the many performances, films and other happenings there. Entertainment is 6 nights a week, most often paid for by passing the hat. Iconoclastic rock and roll musician and writer Jim Reed presents the Psycotronic film society on Wed’s at 7:00pm featuring films that are obscure, influential and often bad as a specialty.  Quiche, quesadillas, baked potatoes and cranberry bread are examples of the offerings that supplement their teas and coffee.  This is a great place to relax, cool off, peruse the daily papers, or pop open your Mac computer.

If you are doing a walking tour of the Historic District (which we highly recommend!), this is a great destination at the south end of Forsyth Park.  If you are driving, parking is convenient on the street or in the parking lot across the street.
