The Curry Corner

fine Indian and Nepalese dining.

1100 Eisenhower Drive (near the Eisenhower cinemas)

This cozy corner (of a strip mall) brings to Savannah, not only delicious Indian and Nepalese food, but also the culture itself.  Photos of Nepal, India and Tibet cover the walls that are framed with deep red curtains.  The best piece of culture, however, is the ever-friendly wait staff.  Vimal, the manager and Nepalese native, will tell you what is happening on the political front in Nepal, play Nepali music for you and teach you Nepali or Hindi phrases.  This place is not a put-on; it is genuine.

Our excellent meal for four was:  Chana Masala (chickpeas in Indian spices), Pollok Paneer (spinach and cheese), cauliflower and potatoes,  Malai Kofta (rich, creamy, vegetable cashew dumplings), and order of rice, two orders of garlic Nan (flat, soft, round, bread) and riata (a cooling cucumber dip).  If your not so up on the spicy, you can request your dishes to be mild.  Our experience proved that when we asked for mild that is actually what we got.  For our spicy lover, a side dish of hot sauce was made available.  Also, if you like the spice, ask for hot mango pickle.  To cool down, for dessert, there is a special kind of Indian ice cream called Kulfi that is creamy and quite delightful.  This dinner for four ran about $60.

If you’ve never tried Indian food this is a great place to start because of the counsel available from Vimal.  Indian food coinsures and Indian food newbie’s can both appreciate The Curry Corner.
