Kayak & Boating Tours & Rentals
| If you are not familiar with the Georgia Coast you may not appreciate that 2/3 of the coast is completely undeveloped! Because of the high tidal range (7-9 ft.) the marsh is wide between the barrier islands and the mainland, and therefore bridges were expensive. So many of the islands have not been developed and are now in the hands of the State of Georgia, the US government or private foundations. Since there are no bridges to Little Tybee, Wassaw, Ossabaw, St. Catherines, Sapelo, Wolf or Cumberland you need to use boat transportation (except for Sapelo and Cumberland, which have ferries). The great news is that these island are virtually uninhabited, especially during the week. |

Captain Joe Dobbs and his 25' Grady White

Trips to Wassaw Island or Ossabaw Island

Joe Dobbs, licensed by the US Coast Guard, operates out of Delegal Creek Marina which is at the South end of Skidaway Island (very accessible from downtown on the Truman Parkway). From Skidaway, Wassaw is the next island South and Ossabaw is beyond that, so this is a great place from which to set out. His usual trip is two hours of sightseeing on the protected waters of the sounds and tidal rivers ($220 for a group of up to 6 adults) but he can also ferry a group to Wassaw Island National Wildlife Refuge or Ossabaw Island for pick up later in the day. Joe has life jackets for all ages and sizes. You can bring along a lunch to enjoy on the beach. Joe has cold sodas and water on the boat. Delegal Marina is inside The Landings, a private community; Joe will call the gate to arrange for your arrival. Joe knows theses waters well and can connect you to the special opportunity of our protected barrier islands. Joe does not take credit cards. |
