Lee served in 1829 as a Lieutenant working to build the fort. The fort is named for the Polish hero who was wounded in battle and died in Savannah during the war to liberate the colonies from England. |

| Ft. Pulaski is a great place for a walk during the hour before sunset (after the gate is closed)- when the deer and raccoons make their appearance. Trails carry you to the Savannah River Ship Channel, to fortifications from the Spanish-American War, and to a picnic area. You can park before you cross the bridge and walk across; don't be surprised to see fishermen in their lawn chairs scattered across the bridge. |
